The Zone
Diet Plan

What makes The Zone Diet plan different from all of the other diet plans out there? The Zone Diet is more than just a diet. It's a way of living a longer and healthier life. The Zone Diet is about balancing your hormones in order to control hunger on less calories while giving your body the proper nutrition it needs.

What Is The Zone Diet?

The creator and author of “The Zone,” Barry Sears PhD. a former researcher states that by eating a certain ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fat your body is in a “metabolic state” allowing your body to work at peak performance. This lifestyle plan is not only intended for losing weight, but also reducing the risk of illness and disease, fighting the effects of aging, as well as improving mental and physical well-being.

The Zone Diet Plan focuses on a hormonal balance to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You will see your energy level sky rocket, while your waistline plummets. However, you need to consume a balanced ratio of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The breakdown of that ratio goes 40%, 30%, 30% respectively. What does this mean to you; it means that you’re not giving up anything. There is not the so called “restrictive” phase as you have with most other diets. You simply get to eat and enjoy food.

How Does The Zone Diet Work?

The foundation of Sears’ theory is based upon the use of diet to control the body's production of the hormone insulin. Insulin helps regulate the storage of excess energy as fat. The hormone glucagon is the opposite of insulin. Its main job is to release stored glucose from the liver when necessary. Therefore you must maintain a balance between the two.

In order to do so, you must pay special attention to what you are eating as well as the portions you are eating. The Zone Diet eating plan consists of a small amount of low-fat protein (30%) at every meal, fats (30%), and carbohydrates (40%) in the form of fiber-rich fruits and vegetables.

This Zone Diet doesn’t have one food dominate over the other, as you see by the percentage breakdown, 40-30-30; each food type is very even. The key is hormonal balance. On The Zone Diet you will achieve the weight you desire while you combat diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other ailments that plagues many people in the world.

The Zone Diet Plan

Carbohydrates
Your daily carbohydrate intake should be 40% on The Zone Diet Plan. Foods high in carbohydrates keep the body producing insulin thus telling your body to keep stock piling nutrients. The surplus of insulin prompts the body to convert these carbohydrates into fat and store them right there on your hind quarters. On the Zone Diet, there are the good and bad carbs too. Good carbohydrates are going to be those closest to their natural form; vegetables and whole grains. The bad are considered “white” carbohydrates; think of flour and sugar. A great example is white rice verses brown rice. Brown is the preferred.

Protein
Your daily protein requirement on The Zone Diet is 30%. Protein in food however has the opposite reaction. Protein in the diet gets the hormone glucagons production going. This hormone tells the body to get rid of the carbohydrates that are stored in the liver. Your brain then takes notice of those free carbohydrates and tells your body that its energy supplies are full and to stop eating. So the natural balance that The Zone Diet promotes help to keep the body in the happy zone, your body is in balance and your hunger is under control and you lose weight.

Fat
Good fats, bad fats; which is which? Well, let’s clarify what kind of fat. Again, there are good fats and bad fats. The good fats consist of omega 3 fats found in fish and monounsaturated fats such as olive oil, avocados and some nuts. The bad fats or saturated fats are found in high fat dairy products and animal sources. A lot of the processed foods found on our grocery shelves are high in trans fat also known as partially hydrogenated oil. Stay completely away from that kind of fat. Your daily “good” fat requirement on The Zone Diet Plan is 30%.

If you’re trying to lose weight or perhaps just wanting to stay healthy The Zone Diet Plan is well balanced. You are not eliminating one particular food group just staying clear of the bad guys among each group. The diet is easy to follow and doesn’t deprive you of any particular food group. There’s no other choice to get your total well being in that “happy zone” other than The Zone Diet plan.
