Recipes For Eating Healthy
Recipes for eating healthy can be simple as pie. We all have our favorite child recipes, like grandma’s oatmeal cookies or mom’s pot roast. While they taste fabulous and make us long for days of the past, they are not conducive to healthy eating in most cases. So what if I told you that recipes for eating healthy aren’t far from your favorites?
I know you are chopping at the bit right now. So here are some tips to make easy healthy recipes not neglecting tasty memories of long ago.
Substitute for Healthier Options
The first recommendation to making a healthy eating recipe is to look and see what you can substitute for healthier options. For example sugar, you can use Splenda Blend instead, which is a mixture of sugar using only half what the recipe calls for. If you prefer you can use another sugar substitute and still get the same yummy cookies and muffins and such. Once it is baked you honestly can't tell the difference.
Omit Unhealthy Ingredients
Another option to make your recipes not only healthy but make them a heart healthy recipe also is to look for ingredients that you can omit. Evaluate the recipe and you will usually find one ingredient that is unnecessary. Unhealthy ingredients include sugar, saturated and trans fat and white refined flour. Processed foods like luncheon meats, processed cheese-products, or high fat products like mayonnaise are not healthy. These items can be high in fat, calories and or sodium and should be avoided as much as possible.
Healthy cooking recipes can be easily achieved just by changing your method of cooking. Deep-frying is a big “no no” so let’s forget that one all together. Pan frying is a little better but there are healthier ways to prepare your food. If you do have to fry your food, use healthy cooking oil such as olive oil.
If your recipe calls for basting, baste with wine or fruit juice. Do your best to cook with nonstick pans or spraying pans with nonstick spray to help cut calories and fat to your meals. Sometimes all it takes is a healthy eating plan to prepare recipes and change the way you cook it.
