List of weight loss programs seem to go on for eternity. With all of the programs available is there really one out there that is the best? Haven’t we all been looking for “that one great” weight loss diet among all the thousands of plans trying to find just the right one? Of course we have. With so many to choose from, where do you start?
Well, the weight loss program reviews are in and you ask “What is the best weight loss program for me? You walk through a bookstore or the check out line at the grocery store and splattered all over are promises of the best diet and weight loss plans around.

As I’m sure you know, a lifestyle change is required for any of these weight loss diet plans to work effectively and efficiently. You must not only know about the plans available but more importantly what kind of weight loss diet you are capable of keeping up with before committing to any of these weight loss diet plans. Just because Weight Watchers or Atkins worked for your friend doesn’t mean that it will work for you. There are some diets that have been developed for people that definitely need to make a lifestyle change for possibly a life or death situation. For example, The American Heart Association Diet, American Diabetes Association Diet as well as the ever popular Mayo Clinic grapefruit diet. These were designed for patients with medical needs that need to make a most important healthy lifestyle change.
The three very popular “top of the list” of weight loss programs all deal with phases or waves; The South Beach, Sonoma and Atkins. In the first phase regardless of the plan you pick you are restricting or eliminating the intake of certain foods. Usually in each, it is the carbohydrates. Many of us abuse the intake of carbohydrates thinking that we need them like the air that we breathe. Yes, you do need carbohydrates in order for your body to function properly but you don’t need to overindulge.
In each of them you are able to add food back as you progress through the diet. The Sonoma Diet lets you add a variety of more foods back first, but in moderation. The first foods you get to add back in each are fruits because of the sugar content. You get to add back whole grains and nuts as well depending on the particular diet. These plans are life time weight loss diet plans. They will help you lose weight and keep it off as long as you follow them of course. Nevertheless, definite ones to keep on your list of weight loss programs.
Jenny Craig and NutriSystem fall somewhat into the same weight loss diet category. These plans will help you “customize” a menu made up mostly if not completely from their prepackaged “special” foods. NutriSystem will also require you to go to the store and buy other foods to supplement their program. Each company ships the food to your door and each system offers “support lines” to help you stick to your diet.
The South Beach weight loss diet plan has cookbooks that offer many recipes. If you have cookbooks at home already, you can take what you learn and alter any recipe to meet the guidelines of any of this diet plan allowing you lots of flexibility.
Similar to the grapefruit diet, in that it has been around for years, there is also the 3 day tuna diet; an oldie but goodie. The fact of the matter is that for any diet to work, it has to work for you, your needs and lifestyle. So if being in a group works for you, great, if not, grab a grapefruit and get started on your own.
So get your list of weight loss programs and take a little time to figure out what one is best for you. If the first one doesn’t work, don’t give up. Go to the next one on your list and keep trying and remember, never give up. You will find the one that eventually works for you. The best one for you will be the one you don’t look at as a starvation or a deprivation diet plan. This is your life; take charge of it and get healthy.
