Importance of
Drinking Water
The importance of drinking water shows by the fact that is one of the most popular accessories in today’s society; a bottle of water. Water has become the second most popular drink, trailing only to soft drinks. And rightly so; water is essential to life providing the means in which all metabolic reactions take place.
Some people drink water to lose weight but there are a number of reasons as to why you should continue to carry your water bottle and drink from it every chance you get.
Water Helps Control Calories. This is probably the number one reason that many people drink water, to help them lose weight. While water doesn’t have any mystic
al powers, it does help control your caloric intake. Especially when you replace higher calorie beverage for a really cold glass of ice water.
Foods that have high water content are larger than foods with lower water content. That higher volume usually means that more chewing is required, and those foods are absorbed at a slower rate. This helps you feel fuller sooner. Foods like broth based soups, oatmeal, beans, fruits and veggies are all water rich foods.
Water Helps Your Metabolism. Your metabolism works faster when you are more hydrated. Fat does not metabolize as quickly when you are dehydrated. Your liver has to help your kidneys function making your metabolism slow down therefore fat is more apt to stick around. And the word on the street, the colder the water the more your metabolism speeds up so cheers to drinking cold water!
The Importance of Drinking Water Flows On & On
Proper digestive and kidney function. Proper hydration keeps all of the natural process in the body ‘flowing.” Our body needs water to help get rid of waste and toxins. This helps prevent constipation, kidney stones and dehydration.
When our body is low on fluid, our brain triggers our thirst mechanism. It’s important that when your body sends you those cues you drink water.
Water and Energy for Muscles. When the fluid balance within a cell is not properly maintained, it shrivels up. This caused muscle fatigue and inadequate performance. This is why it is highly recommended that you drink water while you exercise.
The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that two hours before exercising you drink 17 ounces of water. Then while you exercise you drink water early in the exercise and at regular intervals through out the workout.
The importance of drinking water verses sports drinks needs to be mentioned too. Many people make the mistake of consuming sports drinks during a workout. The best drink during a work out is really water. The sports drinks are designed to replenish fluids and electrolytes after you are done exercising.
Water Keeps Skin Looking Young. You may drink water to lose weight but keep in mind it also helps your skin. Drinking lots of water is not going to reverse wrinkle
s and fine lines, however, the right amount can help you look younger. Proper hydration of the skin helps prevent the skin from appearing dry and wrinkled.
Once your body is adequately hydrated though, the kidneys kick into action and help the body get rid of the excess fluids. So to help lock moisture into your skin you should also use amoisturizer that will create a barrier to stop the water from “leaking out.”
Feeling thirsty is the only way of telling the brain that it hasn’t been receiving adequate amounts of fluid for a quite some time. By drinking eight glasses of water daily, you will be certain your body receives the benefits of drinking water day after day.
The importance of drinking water is vast and is one of the simplest ways of taking care of your body. It is important to know that waiting to drink water only when you feel thirsty is not sufficient to meet the body’s need for water.
